CREATIVE INTENTION SETTING

Throw your resolutions in the bin.

This year we’re setting creative intentions.

Download the workbook and start reflecting on:

  • What you want your creative practice to look like.

  • Defining success on your own terms.

  • Your core values.

  • Allowing space for all your project ideas.

  • Getting to work on the hard things.

  • Creating a vision of your ideal world.

Creatives are naturally watery creatures

That makes having rigid goals and resolutions hard to stick to. Making goals and not sticking to them creates a cycle of shame which in turn stops us creating.

Ideas flow like rivers from creative souls. All rivers flow into the sea eventually but if your river of ideas is lacking direction it can feel overwhelming. We pick up projects then put them down again and then beat ourselves up for not finishing.

What’s worse, when I get too rigid with my output I end up rebelling against myself. Rebelling looks like binge watching my emotional support TV shows (Gilmore Girls/Bob’s Burgers/The Office) and napping with the dogs on the sofa.

BUT! When I’m not creating I get frustrated and angsty and a horror to be around.

I tried goal setting. It didn’t work.

Having intentions instead of goals allows for more fluidity in your creative practice. It allows you to change your mind and work on different projects whilst having an overarching vision for what a creative life looks and feels like.
