NATURE POETRY WORKSHOP

Season 1 : Nature

Push the limits of your poetry practice with this fun poetry workshop exploring nature themes.

Each episode contains three Bake Off-style challenges. Get your creative juices flowing and start producing the technical poems I know you’ve been avoiding.

The workshop is delivered as an ebook so you can work through the tasks at your own pace.

Season 1 will always be free.

The Workshop Covers Four Themes:

  • The Sea

Poetry springs from the sea. We’ll take the ebb and flow of the ocean and turn it into wonderful words on the page.

  • The Forest

What dark depths move through the poet’s psyche? We’ve got to go into the woods to discover who we are. Let’s write to find the creatures in our depths.

  • The River

    The River

The river is a symbol of all life, both nourishing and turbulent, its current is a journey with many twists and turns. This week we’ll explore where the river takes you.

  • Eco Poetry

We can’t write about nature without concerning ourselves with the climate crisis. Ecopoetry is the poet’s grapple with making art in a world that is burning.

Each episode there are three challenges

The Mini Challenge

The mini challenge is a short exercise, designed to get the creative juices going. It shouldn’t take longer than 30 minutes and can be repeated as many times as you like throughout the week. Use it as a warm up before a longer writing session where you want to go deeper.

The Technical Challenge

The technical challenge will force you into writing in a particular format or structure. Think sonnet, villanelle, prose poem, couplets, etc. The idea is not to be perfect but to have a go and play with form. Set a timer for one hour and get it finished. Instructions and examples are provided.

The Epic

Do your best work. Write and rewrite and edit and edit some more. You have all week to do this bit. Research your topic and any stylistic flourishes. If you were being judged, this is the majority of your mark. At all costs avoid RuPaul banging his fist and aim for that famous Hollywood handshake.
