SEASON 2: RELATIONSHIPS

ROMANCE | FRIENDSHIP | SELF-LOVE

THE DATE IS SET <3

Have you been writing in echoing loneliness?

Are your scrawling words sinking into screens and getting you nowhere?

Do your poems crave being loved, held, supported?

Well, it’s time to throw away the image of the lonesome writer creating in a creaking attic and join Season 2 of the Orange Verse: Relationships.

On 26 February join a tight band of poets as we get all up in the messy wonderfulness of our relationships with lovers, friends and ourselves.

In true Orange Verse style we’ll be doing hard things and writing technical poems, creating things you’ve been avoiding.

But! We’re going to have sooooo much fun doing it.

EPISODE GUIDE

Episode 1

Romance

Drawing on the long history of lyrical love poems, the first session will explore romance. Don’t expect any cliches, we’re going to be searching for new ways to describe our love using a traditional form, favoured by the great Bard.

Episode 2

Friendship

This week will explore the often overlooked joys of friendship. In this session, we’ll look at white space and poetry on the page before experimenting with collaboration.

Episode 3

Open Mic

Self-Love

In the final episode we will turn the lens inwards and explore the greatest love of all: self-love. In the wise-words of Rupaul “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else!”

The Workshop Covers Three Themes:

  • Romance

The poetic tradition has lots to teach us about writing love poems. From Sappho to Shakespeare, Byron to Browning, we’ll explore the roots of romance with a modern twist.

  • Friendship

Our friendships provide lots of love in our lives but are often overlooked in poetry. We’ll see how contemporary poets and move their friendships across the page.

  • I Am Love

    Self-Love

It’s time to get introspective and write about all the ways we love ourselves. We’ll get in touch with our inner child and have a go at writing that tricksy self-titled piece.

Each episode there are three challenges

The Epic

Do your best work. Write and rewrite and edit and edit some more. If you were being judged, this is the majority of your mark. At all costs avoid RuPaul banging his fist and aim for that famous Hollywood handshake.
